The Manager - Imaging Services and Physics manages and coordinates activities and resources of the non-interventional components of the Department for the delivery of quality care to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The Manager - Imaging Services and Physics is responsible for staffing, scheduling and budgeting in all clinical areas of the department, including CT, MRI, Ultrasound, X-ray, Fluoroscopy, Molecular Imaging and CT. The incumbent ensures that the standards for areas of responsibility comply with Sidra’s standards, policies and procedures assuring continual, timely and accurate services to patients.
Manager - Imaging Services and Physics develops, executes and manages all medical imaging programs pertaining to radiation safety and protection, diagnostic imaging equipment, quality control and diagnostic imaging research for the clinical diagnostic services provided by the department of Diagnostic Imaging. These services include Diagnostic Radiology, MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Interventional Radiology, Ultrasound, PET, Mammography, Fetal MRI and Radiation Oncology. Through the production of high-quality images, the Manager is responsible for ensuring that a high standard of service is continually provided to all patients, their families and other hospital staff as prescribed in the patient care and facility standards set down by Sidra Medicine
KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Managerial:
- Leads and manages the Radiology Department’s Imaging Services, including physics. Manages the operational activities pertaining to MRI, CT, Interventional Radiology, Ultrasound, and Nuclear Medicine to ensure delivery of a high quality imaging service at Sidra.
- Scheduling of resources and services, supervision, delegation and management of Imaging Services resources to ensure an efficient flow and optimal utilization of equipment and personnel.
- Responsible for the management of Technologists within the service to ensure the continuity of service delivery.
- Develops, implements, maintains and enforces departmental programs, policies, procedures and protocols.
- Meets radiology operational standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and patient-service standards; resolving problems; identifying system improvements.
- Recognizes development needs and capability gaps in the Radiology Department’s Imaging Services and arranges specific projects/assignments to address needs.
- Ensures cross coverage of staff between different Imaging services, and whenever the business deems necessary.
- Provides support and conducts appraisals for staff as directed.
- Manages cost savings and allocates resources accordingly. Ensures efficient use of department resources (consumables, medication, staffing, and equipment) to eliminate waste and reduce costs.
- Works collaboratively with internal/external groups to achieve business results, integrating the diverse perspectives of individuals of different backgrounds; coaches others in the dynamics of effective teamwork.
- Implements change to effect continual improvement in services provided and ensures compliance with all internal and external standards as well as regulatory and legal requirements as directed.
- Responsible for developing and monitoring the department’s budget and spending.
- Monitors and ensures that proper training and development are available to staff.
- Responsible to deliver KPIs of the department. Analyzes, evaluates, interprets and monitors statistical data against key performance indicators and benchmarks to incorporate this information into effective performance initiatives.
- Makes decisions regarding the installation, safe operation and maintenance of imaging equipment in order to comply with standards and safety requirements.
Managing Physics Section:
- Development, execution of optimization on all medical imaging modalities.
- Responsibility for ensuring that a high standard of service is continually provided.
- Develops a comprehensive clinical radiation safety program in diagnostic imaging.
- Directs and manages the medical physics aspects of medical imaging procedures to assure the safe and effective delivery of radiation to achieve a diagnostic or therapeutic result as prescribed in the patient care standards set down by Sidra Medicine. This includes (but is not limited to):
- Protection of the patient and others from potentially harmful or excessive radiation
- Establishment of adequate protocols to ensure accurate patient dosimetry
- Measurement and characterization of radiation
- Determination of delivered dose
- Advancement of procedures necessary to ensure optimal image quality
- Development and direction of quality assurance programs
- Radiation licensing and accreditation
- Medical research
- Develops, implements, and maintains the facility’s Medical Physics Quality Control Programs.
- Drives transformation and demonstrates effective leadership, consultation, project management, relationship building, communication, decision making, execution, and accountability in reference to the facilities medical physics program.
- Serves as Medical Radiation Protection Expert (MRPE) for the facility. Develops a comprehensive clinical radiation safety course in diagnostic imaging for the application of Radiation Personnel License for staff at Sidra.
- Serves on applicable committees, such as the Safety Committee, the Radiation Safety Committee, Radioactive Drug Research Committee, Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Committee, Disaster Committee Cancer Care Committee, and Institutional Review Board.
- Develops and/or evaluates hospital and departmental policies and procedures related to the appropriate clinical use of radiation for imaging purposes.
- Evaluates and reports diagnostic imaging dosimetry information from patient and equipment records to the Chair and/or any other relevant committees or statutory bodies.
- Provides operational and strategic oversight for all medical physics and dosimetry services.
- Provides consultation for medical practitioners and other health-care providers on patient or personnel radiation dose and associated risks.
- Provides direction, guidance and assistance to other health care professionals in optimizing the balance between the beneficial and deleterious effects of radiation.
- Meets and consults with the Chair on program development in diagnostic imaging. Advises on new devices and modalities for improved diagnostic and therapeutic uses of radiation and ultrasound.
- Develops, implements and maintains education programs in radiation physics and radiation safety to physicians, administrators, radiographers, nurses, and other medical personnel in the department and in the hospital as directed.
- Provides physics support to staff radiologists and other healthcare providers with respect to research projects.
- Assists the Chair with facility planning within Diagnostic Imaging to ensure that all of the department’s clinical and academic objectives can be achieved.
- Assists the Chair with the acquisition of all capital imaging equipment for the hospital.
- Performs acceptance testing, evaluation and commissioning of imaging equipment and/or their associated computer systems, algorithms, data, and output.
- Participates in department financial and personnel planning as required.

Clinical:
- Executes and manages all medical imaging programs pertaining to radiation safety and protection, diagnostic imaging equipment, quality control and diagnostic imaging research for the clinical diagnostic services provided by the department.
- Acts independently in the assessment of referrals for General Radiography examinations, taking full responsibility to ensure evidence-based standards of practice of MRI and CT imaging are applied to the examination.
- Develops and implements strategies for Nuclear Medicine & PET/CT Imaging and defines policies, procedures and workflows.
- Serves as Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for the facility. Develops a comprehensive clinical radiation safety program in diagnostic imaging to protect patients, workers, the general public and the environment from radiation produced incident to diagnosis in the treatment of humans. Ensures that all required quality assurance; inspections, calibrations and verifications are performed, and maintain compliance with radiation regulations including state, and international laws and standards of practice, based on original tested performance.
- Develops strategy and key requirements for the Clinical Information System (CIS), Radiology Information System (RIS) and PACS (picture archiving & communication system).
- Ensures modality is compliant with standards to meet inspections such as JCAHO, JCI, ICANL, AECB or equivalent State licensing and regulations
- Monitors stock levels for consumables relative to the service.
- Maintains current knowledge of trends, techniques, procedures and equipment through appropriate technical journals, conferences, seminars, and internal programs. Maintains professional growth and development.
- Ensures the development, implementation and monitoring of Standard Operating Procedures for technologists, including pediatric protocols, are maintained current under the direction and approval of the Chair.
Quality:
- Directs and governs the quality program. Ensures quality improvement programs and competency assessment initiatives for Imaging services are followed.
- Proactively participates in different departmental committees.
- Ensures that quality programs approved by the quality committee is being implemented and followed
- Transparency in addressing all quality concerns and ensuring mitigation plans and preventative controls are being followed.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS – REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL Education Bachelor’s Degree in Medical physics, Imaging/health care management or equivalent Experience7+ years of progressive management experience in a clinical role in cross sectional or Radiation Physics or Nuclear Medicine.
