Job Overview:
The Senior Immigration Specialist uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external issues to improve the Immigration discipline within McDermott. They will act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and share their conceptual and practical expertise related to the Immigration discipline. The Senior Immigration Specialist solves complex problems and uses discipline-specific knowledge to improve their products or services. The Senior Immigration Specialist impacts a range of customer, operational, project, or service activities with the Immigration team and other related teams and ensures that they work within the appropriate guidelines and policies.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Identify trends and develop targeted program-level goals and initiatives using strong immigration experience.
- Advise on case-level filing strategies, including complex situations that require independent research and interpretation of processes and policies as a subject matter expert
- Develop associated processes, filing strategies, and proposed resourcing plans in collaboration with internal teams such as Recruitment, HR, Legal, Risk and Compliance, and Public Policy
- Educate HR and business partners on immigration policies and their impact on business and hiring strategies
- Collaborate with Global Immigration Program Managers to develop performance measurement and inspection mechanisms and tools to evaluate the overall health of the immigration program
- Implement regular reviews of current processes to ensure ongoing compliance, identify gaps and inefficiencies, and lead initiatives for continuous improvement
- Drive system enhancement recommendations through a technical lens
- Provide strategic communications advice to the Immigration Communications and Content team on short and long-term opportunities
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Legal, Business Management, or any related field preferred
- 5 years of global immigration experience
- Deep understanding of immigration landscapes and trends across the region
- Experience in building, implementing, and managing large-scale immigration programs
- Experience in global immigration vendor transition and new country onboarding
- Experience in managing global and country-specific immigration audits
- Experience negotiating immigration concessions with government authorities
- Ability to adapt to change and collaborate effectively at all levels in a highly matrixed environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A solid sense of accountability, sound personal judgment, and the ability to adapt to change
