Job Overview:
The Senior Manager Contract Management is tasked with developing departmental plans, including business, production, and organizational priorities. The role requires multi-disciplinary expertise and an understanding of the industry to achieve financial and operational objectives. The Senior Manager Contract Management manages multiple related teams, sets organizational priorities, and allocates the appropriate resources. They must identify and resolve complex technical, operational, and organizational problems. This role directly impacts business results by supporting and function-specific projects, products, services, and technologies and developing policies and plans.
McDermott has an immediate opening in Qatar for a Senior Contracts Manager with an extensive background in execution of EPCI projects. Reporting directly to the Project Director and functionally to Director of Contracts, the Contracts Manager will provide support on all contractual and commercial issues encountered during the execution phase of a large-scale, complex engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) project.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and maintenance of globally consistent contract management tools, processes, and procedures
- Assist in the evaluation, development, deployment, and maintenance of global strategies to improve contract management efficiencies, increase gross profit, and minimize risks across the organization
- Assist in monitoring, measuring, and improving the level of implementation and effectiveness of the global tools, processes, procedures
- Assist in monitoring and reporting performance of the Contracts Management function
- Other duties related to the Contracts Management function, as requested by the Global Contracts Management Lead
- Own and lead the implementation, enforcement, and verification of compliance with all McDermott policies and procedures
- Ensure employees understand their responsibility and authority to effectively implement the requirements of all McDermott policies and procedures
- Ensure the timely completion of all mandatory training by themselves and their teams
- Support the Project Team to establish or refine a project’s contractual / commercial strategy and ensure continual implementation throughout project execution.
- Periodically conduct contractual awareness sessions with project team members to ensure a consistent understanding of contract requirements
- Identify critical or sensitive contractual issues and act as a conduit for Legal support to the project when required
- Ownership of the Change Management process
- Prior to marine and hook up operations hold readiness reviews with Field Engineers to set ensure contractual awareness especially with respect to waiting on weather criteria and Client instructions
- Act as the initial point of contact with the Client to for all contractual issues that arise during project execution
- Establish an effective working relationship with counter-part from Client team to ensure timely resolution of contractual issues
- Support the project team to establish the change management process, setting a culture of change identification
- Lead / participate in change management meetings to identify changes that may result in entitlement for compensation and / or schedule relief
- Together with the Project Controls Manager, evaluate cost and schedule impact of all identified changes both on an individual and cumulative basis
- Engage with the Client on a continual basis to discuss contractual issues including outstanding and pending change orders. Lead negotiations with Client and work towards timely resolution of change orders and contract amendments.
- Coordinate resolution of contractual issues within the project environment to the extent possible. Brief Project Director and McDermott Management on sensitive issues and support escalation of disputes when required
- Coordinate administration of all contractual correspondence with the Client including the timely release of notification required to ensure McDermott’s contractual rights are preserved
- Monitor key dates against dates defined in the main contract and any subcontracts and advise Project Director of the implications of delays, if any
- Support preparation of project weekly and monthly progress reports for internal and external distribution as per internal and Contract requirements
- Contribute to project risk and opportunity management processes
- Interface with Corporate Finance team to ensure contractual requirements are understood and all necessary insurances and guarantees are provided
- Submit and follow up applications for Completion Certificates and coordinate commercial close out of main contract including step down of bank guarantee and release of retentions.
- Prepare a flow down clause plan highlighting the key obligations and liabilities which are required to be passed onto subcontractors / vendors. In particular, ensure that back-to-back guarantees, warranties and insurances are obtained from subcontractors / vendors.
- Support Supply Chain Management team to coordinate the administration of contractual correspondence with all Vendors and Subcontractors
- Ensure that the external changes (back-charges) are taken up with the Vendor and Subcontractors on a timely basis
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- Degree in Engineering, Law, Business, Quantity Surveying, or similar
- Over 14 years within the energy industry through all phases of EPCI project delivery
- Working experience preferably in Offshore, Subsea, or Onshore Oil and Gas related projects
- Functional, business, and leadership expertise
- Substantial prime contract management experience as a contractor on small, medium, and large EPC projects
- Extensive lump sum bidding and executing experience
- Ability to work as a team member as well as act as team leader

- Communication and presentation skills, both written and spoken
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Computer literate in Microsoft programs: Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, Project
