Job Title: Offshore Rig Welder
Location: Offshore Oil & Gas Rigs (Platforms, Drillships, FPSOs)
Employment Type: Rotational (e.g., 28 days on/28 days off)
Certifications Required:
· AWS D1.1 (Structural Steel) or ASME Section IX
(Pressure Vessels/Piping)
· Offshore-Specific
Certs:
o BOSIET/FOET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction)
o HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training)
o OGUK/UKOOA Medical Fitness
o Confined Space Entry (if applicable)
Key Responsibilities
1. Critical Fabrication & Repair:
o Weld high-stress components (e.g., risers,
pipelines, rig structural supports) under variable weather/sea
conditions.
2. Strict Compliance:
o Adhere to offshore safety protocols (e.g.,
PTW systems, gas testing, H2S awareness).
o Follow rig-specific procedures (e.g.,
hot work permits, simultaneous operations rules).
3. Material Challenges:
o Weld high-grade alloys (e.g.,
duplex stainless steel, Inconel) resistant to saltwater corrosion.
o Address vibration/fatigue stresses unique
to dynamic offshore structures.
4. Emergency Response:
o Act as part of the rig’s emergency
team for urgent repairs (e.g., blowout preventer leaks).
5. Logistical Constraints:
o Work in confined spaces (e.g.,
ballast tanks, leg columns) with limited ventilation.
o Manage limited consumables/equipment (no
quick resupply).
Requirements
Qualifications
· 5+ years welding experience (preferably in
oil/gas).
· Offshore survival training (non-negotiable).
· Ability to pass random drug/alcohol
tests (rig policy).
· Training Reimbursements (Employer responsibility when expire on job).
· Insurance Coverage (Employer responsibility).
Offshore welders must prioritize adaptability,
safety, and teamwork over speed—errors can escalate catastrophically
in remote locations.
